"When Your Well Runs Dry: Rediscovering Renewal through Faith, Friendship, and Self-Care"

In the hustle and bustle of life, it's easy to find ourselves running on empty, relying on God for strength and love as we navigate the challenges that come our way. But there comes a time when we must acknowledge our need for support from our tribe, take a step back, and allow ourselves the grace to recharge. This blog post explores when it's okay to admit that you need more from your circle, when to take a time-out, and how to keep your cup filled.

1. Acknowledging Your Need

In the book of Psalms, we find solace in verses like Psalm 28:7, which reminds us that the Lord is our strength and our shield. However, even the strongest shield requires rest and renewal. It's okay to admit when you're weary, for it is in acknowledging your need that you open the door to receive the support and love you require.

2. Taking a Time-Out

Just as Jesus withdrew to a quiet place to pray (Luke 5:16), there are moments when we must step away from the demands of life and carve out time for self-care. Recognize that it's not a sign of weakness but a necessary act of self-preservation. It's during these moments of solitude and reflection that we can rekindle our connection with God and refill our cups.

3. Prioritizing Self-Care

Keeping your cup filled involves self-care practices that rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Seek inspiration in scriptures like Isaiah 40:31, which reminds us that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Find solace in activities that bring you joy, whether it's reading, meditating, spending time in nature, or pursuing a hobby.

4. Seeking Support from Friends and Family

When you reach out to your tribe for support, you reinforce the bonds of love and friendship. True friends and family understand that life can be draining, and they're willing to offer a listening ear, a helping hand, or simply their presence. Share your feelings and needs honestly, and don't be afraid to lean on them when your cup is running low.

5. Evaluating Your Career and Responsibilities

There may come a time when you need to evaluate your job or career, recognizing that the demands are contributing to your exhaustion. In such cases, seek guidance from Proverbs 3:5-6, which reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts. Consider discussing your concerns with a mentor, supervisor, or career counselor to explore potential changes that align better with your well-being.

Like the woman at the well I was seeking For things that could not satisfy And then I heard my Savior speaking "Draw from My well that never shall run dry"
Fill my cup, Lord I lift it up, Lord Come and quench this thirsting of my soul Bread of Heaven, feed me 'til I want no more Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole

It's crucial to recognize that while drawing strength and love from God is a profound and essential dimension of our faith, even the most devout individuals can find immense value in the love and support of their community. It's perfectly acceptable to acknowledge when you require additional support, to pause for self-care, and to reach out to friends and family for assistance. By nurturing yourself through these actions, you will discover a revitalized wellspring of strength and resilience, allowing you to confront life's trials with faith and the unwavering support of those who care about you.

Take time for a break in the soaring,
